Join us for a fun and enlightening Thai Mat Massage Workshop. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn the graceful dance of traditional Thai massage, a practice that combines gentle stretching with rhythmic pressing to rejuvenate both body and spirit. Perfect for beginners and seasoned massage enthusiasts alike, you’ll discover how to use your own body weight to ease tension and enhance flexibility. Prepare to laugh, stretch, and leave feeling refreshed and empowered to bring the magic of Thai massage into your daily life!
This introductory training in Thai massage, equips participants with the essential skills to perform this traditional technique safely and effectively. By the end of the program, you will have an understanding of Thai massage, including its history, origins, philosophy, and core principles.
There is no spiritual or religious component required to participate. I always aim to teach in a way that is inclusive, respectful of all beliefs, and centered on skill building and professional development. That said, Thai Mat massage has roots in Buddhism, and ancient healing traditions that incorporate mindfulness breath and energetic awareness.
The curriculum covers practical aspects such as preparing the massage space, selecting the right equipment, and setting the ambiance. You’ll learn how to establish client boundaries and ensure comfort throughout the session. Before beginning a massage, participants will practice stretches and warm-up movements for self-care to prepare physically for the session.
You will also gain knowledge about contraindications, learning when Thai massage is not advisable, and implementing safety precautions for vulnerable groups. The course addresses client-specific health considerations and teaches how to observe and understand the flow and transitions between different sequences in a Thai massage session.
Participants will learn to apply proper body mechanics and ergonomics to minimize strain and maintain correct posture, which helps prevent common injuries associated with Thai massage. The training includes focus on the four primary positions: Supine, Prone, Side-lying, and Seated, and ensuring proper body alignment and breath awareness.
You will be introduced to the energy lines (Sen lines) used in Thai massage and how they relate to healing. Techniques such as proper compression pressure, passive assisted stretches, and the use of hands, thumbs, feet, and elbows will be practiced. Additionally, you will learn to transition smoothly between sequences and explore complementary therapies that enhance Thai massage.
The course also integrates Thai massage with other bodywork techniques and modalities. After completing at least 12 hours of practical Thai massage practice on fellow students, you will be able to perform a complete Thai mat massage and adapt these skills to a 90-minute table session. * Note There is extensive kneeling in this practice. If you have knee sensitivity, weakness or have had surgery on yours knees in the last 3 months this course is not recommended.
Finally, you’ll leave the course with a personalized marketing plan, developed to help you effectively market and advertise your skills as a Thai massage practitioner. This training not only enhances your technique but also prepares you to confidently and skillfully integrate Thai massage into your professional practice.
